On November 14-16th 2010, Acolyst sponsored along with partner, CA Technologies, the Healthcare IT Summit at the Gaylord Hotel in Washington, DC hosted by Everything Channel. We knew there was a demand for Data and IT Governance, but we were surprised to find the number of people requesting it. The IT Executives provided us a snapshot of their environment and wanted to know more about our Governance Methodology Roadmap. Acolyst was built on helping organizations meet their strategic initiatives and goals.
Today, we are happy to be in a position to help executives with their data, compliancy, regulation and making confident decisions.
Our partner, CA Technologies, asked us to discuss Data Governance and Cloud Computing initiatives after the popular webcast series we did September 2010 on “Deciding to Go Cloud” causing a lot of engaging questions from the audience days after. The focus on Data Governance and IT Governance is based on the demand of our clients wanting to learn more and understanding how we can help organizations to be compliant with legislative laws, regulations, and mandates such as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act and HIPAA.
Data versus IT Governance
There is a fine line around the difference between Data Governance and IT Governance. Data Governance manages the data assets while IT Governance manages the technology assets. What do I mean? Think of it this way – to cook a nice holiday meal you need at a minimum ingredients and utensils. The ingredients can include the vegetables, seasonings, and meat. The utensils could be measuring, mixing, preparation (can opener, brushes, strainers, etc) and other related items. You are now in a panic since you have 40 guests coming, so you call your mother. She gives you her famous signature recipe including the ingredients and measurement amount. The ingredients are the “data assets”, the measuring utensils are the “technology assets”, and the signature recipe is the “knowledge asset”.
To the right, we have provided links to other pages of our site where we discuss Data Management, Data Conversion, and related Activities. We hope you will find the materials informative and if you should have any questions, I welcome you to contact me directly: valeh@acolyst.com
